Deborah Graham

Drawing and painting as response, meditation, self-enquiry and as healing; my work is always personal but seeks to connect. Looking for something recognised and recognisable not in terms of literal meaning or content but something that may be on some level, understood.

I allow image, line, colour and form to arise, automatic drawing, flow of conciseness, instinctual use of colour and mark. Sometimes struggling to step aside and let images happen resulting in canvases that expose the fluctuations of the mind.

Over the many years I have practised as a fine artist my work has sought subject, from myth and archetype, through landscape and natural forms. Now the subjects are less evident but echoes of a built visual vocabulary still surface.
